Where is the project implemented?

The project is implemented in rural communities within Uganda, focusing on degraded landscapes that require ecological restoration and improved land productivity.

Who is involved in the project?

Local farmers, youth groups, women’s associations, and community leaders work alongside KEA to implement and sustain restoration activities.

What type of trees are planted?

The project prioritizes indigenous and fruit tree species that support biodiversity, soil recovery, and community livelihoods.

How does the project benefit communities?

Communities benefit through improved soil fertility, increased food security, income opportunities from tree-related activities, and enhanced climate resilience.

Forest Village Restoration

KEA helped transform Kikandwa into a “forest village” by restoring degraded land through agroforestry and community-led conservation. The project improved food security, increased biodiversity, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Agroforestry transformation

Communities work together to turn degraded land into productive forest landscapes. Restoring degraded land through tree planting and sustainable farming practices

Tree planting & nursery development

Growing indigenous and fruit trees to restore biodiversity and support livelihoods.

Soil restoration techniques

Improving soil health using organic methods that increase long-term productivity.

Community mobilization

Engaging local people to lead and sustain restoration efforts.

Climate Resilient Agroforestry Project (UNDP SGP)

Implemented between 2014–2015, this project focused on building climate resilience through agroforestry and soil restoration. It helped improve soil fertility, increase carbon capture, and support sustainable farming systems.

Climate-Resilient Agroforestry

Building resilient farming systems for smallholder communities

Climate-smart agriculture

Farmers adopt techniques that respond to changing weather and climate conditions. Improving food security through integrated tree and crop systems

Agroforestry training

Equipping farmers with practical skills to combine trees and crops effectively.

Soil fertility improvement

Using natural methods to enrich soil and increase yields sustainably.
